Orthopaedic Theatre Practitioner - MEOC

Band 5

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for Band 5, Theatre Practitioners committed to delivering high quality care to join our elective orthopaedic service at Mexborough Elective Orthopaedic Centre.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) working in partnership with Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BH) and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) are opening a dedicated orthopaedic hub for the people of South Yorkshire, with health professionals undertaking hip and knee replacement inpatient procedures alongside foot and ankle, hand and wrist, and shoulder day case surgery.

The Montagu Elective Orthopaedic Centre (MEOC) facility will feature two state-of-the-art theatre units, two anaesthetic rooms and a recovery suite, in addition to 12 inpatient beds.

You will be expected to work alongside and communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team and actively contribute to assessing, planning and implementing and evaluating care.  You will work as a member of our theatre teams on circulating, scrub and/or anaesthetic duties and opportunities will be provided to gain experience and further training in both these areas as your registration supports.  You will be committed to providing a high standard of patient care, demonstrating motivation, enthusiasm and consideration of financial importance.

Main duties of the job

As a Theatre Practitioner you will work alongside the Anaesthetist or Surgeon, to provide first class, patient centred anaesthetic or surgical care. You will at all times work in accordance with the ‘Codes of Professional Conduct’ (HCPC) (NMC) and ensure at all times your practices reach the required professional standard.

Provide the correct surgical instruments and materials to the surgeon and be responsible for all surgical instruments, equipment and swabs during the operation.

Act as a link between the surgical team and other parts of the theatre and hospital anticipating the requirements of the surgical team and responding effectively to ensure that all required instrumentation and equipment are available at the appropriate time.

As a registered practitioner you will be a responsible and compassionate patient advocate and act in their best interest at all times.
