We are seeking to recruit a full-time permanent clinical psychologist to provide a clinical psychology service to children and their families referred to the neurodisability team at Ryegate Children’s Centre which is part of Sheffield Children’s Hospital. There are also available 1.5 WTE clinical psychologist posts on a fixed-term basis of 12 months, with the possibility that some or all of the hours will become permanent in the future.

The persons appointed will provide assessment and treatment to children, as well as advice and consultation to professional colleagues. We welcome applications from both current trainees who are due to qualify in the next year and more experienced Band 7s who may be looking for a new challenge.   

We are looking for a candidate with specialist interest and experience of working with children with neurodevelopmental difficulties and their families. Experience of working within a specialist Neurodisability Team (particularly autism spectrum disorders) would be advantageous but not essential.  Work in the Neurodisability service may include contributing to the assessment of autism spectrum disorders (e.g. via school observations), undertaking cognitive assessments, and running group and individual interventions with children and young people who have a range of neurodevelopmental difficulties. We would welcome both full-time and part-time applications. 

37.50 hours permanent 37.50 and 18.75 (or a variation on this) fixed term contracts.

• To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.
• To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems in the context of the family and wider system, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
• To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
• To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients’ formulation, diagnosis and treatments.

To coordinate, where appropriate, the intervention plans in respect of children and young people, taking responsibility for initiating planning and reviews with the young people, their carers, referring agents and others involved in the network of care.
