Genetic Technologist

Permanent | Full-time
Join our dynamic team at Sheffield Diagnostic Genetics Service as a Genetic Technologist. You'll provide important technical and analytical support, contributing directly to patient diagnostics through molecular and cytogenetic testing. This role offers excellent opportunities to develop your expertise across a range of modern genetic technologies, working with experienced professionals in a supportive environment.
We are looking for someone who has:

Degree (or equivalent) in biological science or a related discipline
-
AHCS registered or committed to working towards it
-
Substantial hands-on experience in genetic techniques within an accredited NHS diagnostic laboratory or similar setting.

Proficiency in methods such as PCR, karyotyping, arrays, Sanger and next-generation sequencing, with excellent technical and analytical skills.

Reporting into the Genetic Technologist (B6), your responsibilities will include:

Perform and interpret molecular and cytogenetic tests according to SOPs and departmental protocols.

Produce standard template reports for initial result reporting.

Participate in routine lab tasks and rota systems, supporting service delivery.

Supervise Medical Laboratory Assistants in laboratory techniques.

Contribute to quality control, safety protocols, and research activities.

Collaborate with senior technologists to manage workloads and meet targets.

- Ability to use relevant laboratory software e.g., Cytovision, Mutation Surveyor, Genemapper or equivalents.
