Senior Clinical Support Worker
NHS AfC: Band 3
Job overview
Permanent
Senior Clinical Support Worker required to join our Outpatient team!
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team in the Outpatient Department, caring for children aged 0-18 across Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Northern General, Ryegate Assessment Unit, Centenary House, and the new NCCHT building which is due to open in 2026.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with children and families. Our clinics cover different specialties, focusing on family-centered care in partnership with parents and the healthcare team.
You will assess patients, plan care, and support a safe, effective environment. You will also assist with clerical tasks, stock maintenance, and equipment management.
Previous paediatric experience and an NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare (working towards Level 3) are desirable. You’ll develop practical nursing skills under the guidance of qualified paediatric nurses.
We offer part-time and full-time hours, with clinics running primarily Monday-Friday between 8 am and 6 pm, along with some evening and weekend shifts.
If you’re passionate about making a difference in children’s healthcare, we’d love to hear from you!
Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Ward Manager, your responsibilities will include:
-
Assist nurses in providing compassionate care to children and families.
-
Perform hygiene tasks, including personal care, tracheostomy care, catheterization, and wound dressing under supervision.
-
Support feeding, including tube feeding, oral feeding, and recording intake.
-
Monitor patient conditions, take observations, and report findings.
-
Help with assessments, venepuncture, and blood glucose monitoring.
-
Help maintain a safe environment through equipment checks, cleaning, and patient transfers.
-
Support families, especially in distressing situations, and assist with communication.
-
Participate in departmental tasks, including stocking, filing, and maintaining cleanliness.
