We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our busy Radiology department. You'll help ensure the smooth running of administrative processes to support our clinical services, patient care, and operational efficiency.
About Us: Our team has around 70 staff, including Consultant Radiologists, Sonographers, Radiographers (MRI, X-ray, Nuclear Medicine), Radiographic Aides, and administrative teams. We provide different diagnostic services including MRI, CT, ultrasound, echocardiograms, DEXA, and plain film X-rays for inpatients, outpatients, and walk-in referrals. As a regional and national specialist service provider, we work with departments across the hospital and beyond to deliver high-quality care.

Main duties of the job
Reporting into the PACS/RIS Manager, your responsibilities will include:

Provide clerical support including data entry, appointment booking, dealing with post, scanning, shredding, and minute taking

Handle telephone and email queries, including complaints, with professionalism and empathy

Process referrals and register patients, including those referred externally, using hospital systems and the National Summary Care Record

Maintain confidentiality and uphold the dignity of patients and colleagues
-
Communicate with patients, carers, staff, and external agencies

Support with coordinating scan sessions, and liaising with clinical teams for general anaesthetic requirements

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent in English (Grade C or above)
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Level 3 in customer care or equivalent acquired through experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Clerical experience gained from working within a patient administration department within a hospital setting and previous reception experience
- Experience in using PAS
- Experience dealing with the public, working in a team environment and use patient-based computer systems
Desirable criteria
- Competence of using of using RIS/PAS
- Experience of working with medical, nursing and medical secretarial staff
- 12 months work experience of hospital appointment systems and waiting list systems
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of hospital appointment working processes and practices
- Computer literacy with accurate keyboard skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Methodical approach work with attention to detail
- Ability to use own initiative and work as part of a team
- Excellent telephone manner
Desirable criteria
- Working knowledge of the Radiology computer system and PAS
- Working knowledge of hospital appointment systems and waiting list systems
Personal Attributes
Essential criteria
- Pleasant, tactful and understanding manner
- Good communication skills/telephone manner, capable of talking to a wide range of people – patients/parents/radiographers/consultants
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
