Job overview

Permanent | 24hrs per week | 2 positions available

We are delighted to offer exciting opportunities to join our Security Team at Sheffield Children's Hospital. We have one Day Post and one Night Post available, each consisting of two 12-hour shifts per week, on a rota basis.

You will help maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Working across different areas of the hospital, you will provide support to nursing teams, respond to security incidents, and contribute to the wellbeing of vulnerable patients.

About You: You'll be a calm, flexible, and team-oriented person with strong communication skills. You'll be comfortable interacting with children, families, and staff in a compassionate and respectful manner—even during challenging situations. Experience in customer service or a security-related environment is desirable.

Essential:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths

  • Experience working in a customer-facing environment

  • Ability to work within a team and follow direction

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Deputy Director of Hotel Services, your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain a visible security presence through regular patrols

  • Respond to incidents of violence or aggression, including safe restraint and removal if necessary

  • Support staff and patients with physical and mental health needs on wards

  • Monitor and report security issues through CCTV and incident logs

  • Support emergency situations and communicate with police and hospital staff

  • Perform duties such as litter removal, laundry and food delivery, and waste handling

Join us in making a real difference in a unique healthcare environment where safety and compassion go hand in hand.

Our nearly 4,000 colleagues bring our CARE values — Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence — to life every day, creating a kind, welcoming environment where patients and families feel safe and supported.

As we approach our 150th anniversary in 2026, we’re excited to keep building our leadership in children's health, improve experiences for patients and staff, and focus on our communities and population health.

We also offer excellent benefits to support your wellbeing, with generous annual leave and pension schemes, health and wellbeing programmes, and exclusive discounts — helping you thrive at work and beyond.
