Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a vacancy within our GRaDE/Respiratory winter wards for a Housekeeper; this role is to support the nursing team in the delivery of high standards of care on Huntsman 2 and Huntsman 6.
Huntsman 2 and Huntsman 6 are busy wards providing high standards of care within the GRaDE directorate at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
As part of the team you would be responsible to the Senior Sister for the provision of the non-clinical and clinical needs of the patients, ensuring that the patient and staff environments are clean and tidy. In this role it will be necessary to liaise with other departments throughout the hospital and be involved in greeting visitors to the units.
Applicants should possess excellent communication and team working skills. A flexible approach to work is essential. You should be able to thrive on having lots going on and rise to the challenge of constantly switching between different activities and issues.
Main duties of the job
Assist in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards on the ward and report to the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and Matron on the level of cleanliness in the area.
Participate in environmental monitoring and inspections.
Spot cleaning i.e. ensure spillage’s including body fluids are dealt with swiftly and efficiently in accordance with Trust policies.
Upkeep of ward appearance i.e. removing clutter, tidy notice boards, attend to storage requirements, signage, tidy nurse stations etc.
Ensure bed areas are clean and prepared for new patients.
Assist patients with meal choices as directed by the Nurse in Charge
Assist with the setting of tables, serving of meals, cleaning crockery, replenishing water jugs.
Assisting patients with dietary and fluid intake, as directed by the Nurse in Charge and document this on the patient’s diet and fluid charts in accordance with the care plan.
Clinic equipment management and safe storage (both clinical and non-clinical)
Undertake errands, where appropriate, as directed by the Nurse in Charge.
Minor clerical duties as required.
Ordering of stock and non-stock items, ensuring shelf top-up and stock rotation.
Deal with telephone calls and personal callers as appropriate.
Carry out all duties safely and responsibly, showing awareness of Health and Safety Policies, Food Hygiene and COSHH Regulations.
Ability to maintain complete confidentiality with regard to all patient issues.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of five months due to the post being recruited as part of a limited term project within the Trust. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the requirement for the post to be maintained as a part of the project’s implementation and the timescales associated with this.
