Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Portering and Transport Assistant Manager to join our department. 

The successful candidate will assist the Portering and Transport managers in having day to day responsibility for the supervision of the Portering and Transport staff, ensuring smooth running of the departments.

To provide a patient and non related, effective and efficient Portering and Transport service throughout the Trust. 

To assist the Portering & Transport manager in having day-to-day responsibility for the supervision of the Portering and Transport staff, ensuring smooth running of the departments.

 

Main duties of the job

  • Deputise in the absence of Portering & Transport Managers.
  • To direct and supervise staff within the Portering & Transport Departments, as required.
  • To undertake documentation required for Payroll Services.
  • To ensure Trust Policies and departmental policies and Procedures are strictly adhered to.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to A level qualification or equivalent and/or could demonstrate substantial experience in a similar role.
  • Educated to GCSE grade 4/C or above to include English and Maths (or equivalent experience / quals)
Desirable criteria
  • Intermediate/Advanced Health & Safety Certificate.
  • Completed or working towards Edward Jenner course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working in a Transport department
  • Tact and diplomacy
  • Team Player
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.
  • Range of IT skills, including databases and fleet management systems
  • Good organisation and time management skills,
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Trust Policies and Procedures, or a similar organisation.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements
  • Experience of dealing with external regulatory bodies. E.g. DVLA, Department of Transport, etc.
  • Previous experience of managing large fleets or equivalent experience.
  • Supervisory management experience

Further Training

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of keeping up-to-date on current Transport affairs and legislation and national/local targets e.g. reduced carbon.

Skills/Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Ability to influence and persuade.
  • Ability to manage and respond to change positively
  • Good communicator

Other Factors

Essential criteria
  • Full driving licence valid for the UK. Licences issued after 01/01/1997 will require the following categories in addition to the standard licence – B+E, C1 and D1
Desirable criteria
  • A valid 7.5t Licence with full CPC training and (digital) taco card.
