Community Maternity Support Worker - Bassetlaw

Job overview

We are looking for Community Maternity Support Workers.

Community roles will require a valid UK driving licence and use of a car.

It is expected that you will participate in the following:

  • Maternal and Baby routine care
  • Maternal and Baby observations
  • Home visits for Community role.
  • Transcutaneous bilirubinometer readings
  • Maternal and baby blood sampling
  • Contemporaneous record keeping
  • Parent education
  • Infant feeding in line with BFI
  • Babies requiring additional needs - you will be expected to work alongside/under the direction of a midwife to provide care to babies requiring extra monitoring and specialist care.  This involves multi-disciplinary working therefore excellent communication skills must be demonstrated

Main duties of the job

This unique opportunity is ideal for individuals who are keen to embrace a new challenge and expand their knowledge and skills in a specialist area.

The midwifery team is a fast paced busy environment to work in and you will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high standard of care whilst maintaining a safe, efficient environment.

Although the role can be challenging, it will provide excellent personal development opportunities and job satisfaction.

This is an excellent opportunity for those that have a NVQ 2 or equivalent qualification in a health related subject and hold Maths and English GCSE grade C and above/ grade 4 or above or equivalent.

It is essential that you have the ability to work independently and under supervision.  Good interpersonal and organisational skills are essential for this post.

The successful applicant will be given specialist training and induction from the midwifery education team and support from enthusiastic and dedicated midwives.

Person specification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • 12 months experience of working in a care setting providing personal care
  • Knowledge and understanding of current healthcare issues
  • Computer literate
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a maternity setting
  • Experience of supporting junior staff or trainees

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health related subject or equivalent experience.
  • Care Certificate or have worked within care prior to 2015.
  • GCSE Maths & English grade C or above/Grade 4 OR equivalent i.e. Functional skills level 2
  • Agree to undertake the Band 3 Maternity Support Worker Competency Booklet.
  • UK Driving License
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 3 in a health related subject
  • Ability to undertake a range of clinical skills – See Appendix (work area specific).
  • IT systems i.e. K2
