Deputy Library and Knowledge Services Manager
NHS AfC: Band 7
Job overview
We’re looking for a professionally qualified and experienced librarian to join MPFT’s library team. We provide health library services to a large and geographically widespread non-acute Trust.
The post is very varied, combining operational management with providing searches, summaries, training and other health librarian services. You’ll also develop strategic management skills. You’ll need the curiosity and listening skills to understand the information needs of health and care staff in community, hospital, prison and other settings; and then come up with innovative solutions.
The library works closely with other Trust services such as quality and research and innovation so you can get closely involved with service improvements and research. We’re also developing our knowledge management work. Our team takes an evidence-based approach to delivering library services; your role will include encouraging all staff to continue this.
You’ll line manage the librarians and deputise for the Library Manager regularly.
We deliver most services virtually but have small libraries in Stafford and Shrewsbury. Your work base will be in either Stafford or Shrewsbury but you can work from home when you don’t need to be on site. You will need to travel to different sites, mostly in Shropshire and Staffordshire, sometimes in rural areas.
This post is suitable for librarians with experience of working in an NHS, workplace or academic library.
The post is 30 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
- Support evidence-based practice and patient care and decision-making within the Trust and other organisations by managing the delivery of high quality, user-centred library services to Trust staff, service users and carers and other library service users.
- Take responsibility for the operational management and continuing development of the library services within the existing strategic framework; work with the Library and Knowledge Services Manager to shape the strategic development of the service so that it continues to meet the needs of the Trust and other stakeholders in a constantly evolving environment.
- Work with other library services locally, regionally and nationally to develop collaborative services that ensure best value for money and access to information within resource constraints, whilst ensuring that the particular needs of the Trust and its staff continue to be met
Working for our organisation
By joining Team MPFT, you will be helping your communities and in return for this, we will support you by;
- Supporting your career development and progression
- Excellent NHS Pension scheme
- Generous maternity, paternity and adoption leave
- Options for flexible working
- Up to 27 days annual leave (increasing with service up to 33 days) and the opportunity to purchase additional leave
- Extensive Health and Wellbeing support and resources
- If you work in our community teams, we pay for your time travelling between patients
- Lease car if you complete more than 500 business miles per annum, fully insured and maintained (including tyres), mileage paid at lease car rate
- Salary sacrifice car - fully insured and maintained (including tyres), your gross pay is reduced by the cost of the vehicle before tax, NI and pension deductions are calculated, mileage paid at business rates
- Salary sacrifice bikes up to £2k
- Free car parking at all trust sites
- Free flu vaccinations every year
- Citizens Advice support linked with a Hardship Fund for one off additional support up to £250 (if the criteria is met)
