Job overview

AAC Date: 05/09/25
This is a 10 PA new substantive renal consultant post, based at the renal unit at St Helier.  The post is based at St Helier for
three days a week and for two days a week centers on care of renal patients in the Croydon Hospital catchment area, where the appointee will provide two general nephrology clinics a week as well as advice and guidance to primary care in the local region. The job plan includes time to provide clinical care and support for a cohort of satellite haemodialysis patients at Croydon Hospital, in conjunction with one or two other nephrologists. At St Helier the post includes a major role in advanced kidney care, including a weekly clinic and MDT.

All the nephrology consultants based at St Helier contribute to care of renal inpatients with a hot week, currently every six weeks. The appointee would also be required to carry out ward-rounds at the weekend on the same basis and be available for one in 12 nights on call from home. The job plan has 1.5 SPAs allocated for revalidation, appraisal, audit and CPD time. In addition, there is a further 0.5 SPA time allocated for the new consultant to become involved in educational supervision of the renal middle grade doctors or in supporting them in carrying out renal procedures.  The job plan enables time to attend unit histopathology meetings, seminars, grand rounds and journal clubs and we are supportive of the postholder developing their own interest in association with the needs of the unit
