Job overview

This role is aimed at senior trainees who are in possession of the FRCA (or equivalent) or CCT holders seeking specialised training in high-risk anaesthesia for vascular surgery.  However, post-primary candidates displaying aptitude and interest will be considered. The post commences February or August 2026 ideally for a year but candidates wishing to stay for 6 months will be considered.

Main duties of the job

 

These goals will be dependent on the grade and prior experience of the successful applicant:

·         Appreciation of the implications of major comorbidities on the perioperative management of vascular patients.

·         Use of national guidelines, research, risk stratification, clinical assessment and CPET in assisting with pre-optimisation, perioperative management, and decision-making.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The exact timetable will be tailored to fit the Fellow’s specific interests. The Fellow will take part in the trainee on call rota, being on call for the intensive care unit, obstetrics or theatres dependent on the requirements of the department

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Primary FRCA
Desirable criteria
  • Final FRCA or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of undergraduate and post graduate teaching
  • Competence in adult general anaesthesia, obstetric anaesthesia and management of the intensive care unit with remote supervision
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Vascular anaesthesia experience

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Interest in development of vascular anaesthesia and CPET skill and experience
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Motivated, able to take initiative
  • Aptitude for team working
