Locum Consultant in General Paediatrics

We are recruiting a part time general paediatrician for our busy district general hospital. The post is a locum 6-month fixed term post, pending substantive recruitment, with no night shifts or on-calls. The post includes resident duties covering weekends on the Children’s Assessment Unit. The roles support our general paediatric services.  

The post holder will mainly be involved in clinical work in general paediatiatrics, but will also be expected to participate in the junior doctor teaching programme. There are no neonatal duties in this post.

The post holder will take part in a rota with 6 other consultants on a similar job plan working a 1 in 7 attending week rota. The post holder will work an average of 6 PAs per week including the out of hours CAU shifts. Weekends covering the Child Assessment Unit (CAU) are at a frequency of 2 in 14 (one 2 pm to 10 pm and one 9 am to 5 pm shift with prospective cover for annual leave). During attending weeks the post holder will work 3 days each week covering the general ward, CAU and paediatric ED. 

Main duties of the job

There are 3 attending week consultants on the general side each day on Mondays to Fridays with two at weekends. There is a separate attending consultant covering the Neonatal Unit (NNU) each day. There is also a separate consultant non-resident on call out of hours rota for general paediatrics and a separate one for NNU. Over weekends these consultants are also available for the ward rounds on each side.
