Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Enhanced Clinical Fellow (ST3–ST5 equivalent) to join our Emergency Surgery Team. The post is primarily based within Emergency Surgery and the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, with regular access to emergency theatres. There will also be opportunities to gain elective theatre experience within Colorectal and Upper GI surgery, supporting both clinical development and progression.
Due to the short timescales for recruitment and mandatory pre-employment checks, applicants must be available to start on 1 April. This role may not be suitable for candidates requiring relocation within this timeframe.
Main duties of the job
The post allows access to surgery. The position also aligns as a UK training post. Opportunities to attend theatre lists, clinic, endoscopy and are provided.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Wexham Park Hospital is a busy district general hospital. The fellowship comprises of upper and lower gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery. Both offer access to theatre i. Additional training in endoscopy and is available and it is expected that the fellow will participate in clinics.
The hospital and operates an on call emergency general surgery block, and it is expected that the fellow will participate in a full elective and emergency rota.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- ATLS
- MRCS equivalent
- MB, BS
- Full GMC registration
Desirable criteria
- Distinctions, Scholarships, prizes
- Other degrees e.g. BSc, Masters, PhD (or equivalent)
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
- Understands the need for and appreciates the role of audit in clinical practice
- Understands the principles of clinical governance - ensures patients are not put at risk
- Able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English e.g. able to write legible records
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates a critical and enquiring approach to knowledge acquisition
- Evidence of leadership qualities (not necessarily in medicine)
Experience
Essential criteria
- 4 years post qualification experience of which 2 years of which must be in a general surgery post at ST1/2 level or equivalent
- Demonstrates experience of teaching and training ST1/2 or equivalent and F1s
- Competent in basic procedures e.g. CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking etc.
Desirable criteria
- Experience working at middle grade in a surgical speciality
- Has participated in clinical audit
- Previous Research experience
- Previous surgery experience
