The department of ICU are looking to appoint two Senior Clinical Fellows to join their team. These posts are to start as soon as possible and are on a permanent basis. The post is aimed at training you to further develop skills in the resuscitation, stabilization and ongoing management of critically ill adults within the Intensive Care Unit and the rest of the hospital. You will be working on a full shift ICU resident rota with at least two others Resident Doctors on the unit, as well as three Consultants doing twice daily wards rounds. You will be the Senior Resident Doctor and will be supervised by a non-resident Consultant out of hours. You will need to have at least 1 year experience each in Intensive Care and Anaesthesia. Dedicated time can also be provided to gain experience in sub-specialty areas of Intensive Care Medicine

Main duties of the job

You will provide a clinical service, with colleagues, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. 

Working with your colleagues and the multi-professional team you will have continuing responsibility for the well-being of all patients under your care. You will be required to adhere to the principles of good medical practice as laid down by the General Medical Council.

You will be required to participate in the Health Board’s risk management process, clinical governance and any other healthcare governance activities within the department, the delivery unit and the Health Board.  Adherence to the Caldicott Principles of information governance is mandatory. 

You will participate in the on call rotas  with prospective cover.

You will adhere to all policies which cover radiation exposures as currently outlined in IRMER regulations.

The Health Board is committed to meet its obligations to minimize infection.   You will be required to comply with current procedures for the control of infection, including dress-code, to challenge non-compliance by colleagues, and to attend training in infection control provided by the Health Board.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 1-year Intensive Care Medicine experience at core (CT) level or higher
  • At least 1 year Anaesthesia experience at core (CT) level or higher
  • Previous experience of working in the NHS/experience of NHS working practices and systems.
  • Up to date with current practices in Critical Care
Desirable criteria
  • 1 year experience in Acute Medical Specialities and/or Emergency Medicine
  • Specialty (ST) level experience in Intensive Care Medicine and/or Anaesthesia

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
  • Ability to take clinical decisions where appropriate and to seek advice from senior doctors when needed
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to communicate sensitively with patients, relatives and staff
  • Advanced Airway Skills

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • MB BS or recognised equivalent
  • Initial Assessment of Competencies in Anaesthesia or equivalent
  • ALS provider certification or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Further relevant degree/diploma/teaching qualification
