To work within Wales Fertility Institute Unit and you will support the Unit Nurse Manager in ensuring efficient/effective management of the area. You will promote, improve, maintain high standards of care, and contribute to the wider development of nursing within the Health Board. This will be based upon sound evidence based practice in line with the legal requirements, HFEA statutory rules and Health Board policies relating to practice and the NMC Code.
Communicate effectively at all times, liaising with members of the Multidisciplinary Team to deliver patient care. Facilitate the development and maintenance of the department philosophy. Display leadership skills and act as the patients advocate .Ensure practice is in line with Departmental SOPs, policies and guidance that are evidence based and can be audited.
Main duties of the job
The Wales Fertility Institute has an excellent opportunity for a Band 6 Nurse to join the team. We are a busy fertility clinic, based within the University Hospital of Wales and Neath Port Talbot Hospital. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to join an experienced, highly professional multidisciplinary team in an exciting speciality to assist people through their fertility treatment. As a nurse leader you will display leadership skills which you will initiate and manage change in collaboration with the Unit Nurse Manager, Lead Fertility Nurse, Senior Matron, Clinical service manager, PR and Clinical Director.
You will facilitate the development and maintenance of the department philosophy.
The successful applicant will be required to work across both sites as per the needs of the service and work weekends on a rota basis. We welcome applications from all trained nurses who would like full and part time hours. Prior experience in fertility nursing is desirable however not essential as necessary training will be provided for the right candidate.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Successful post holder will
Assist in theatre and recovery and utilise developed skills in relation to carrying out intrauterine inseminations.
Plan and co-ordinate patient’s treatment cycles.
To undertake follicle tracking scans in line with clearly defined WFI Standard Operating Procedures/Protocols and professional codes of conduct.
To undertake early viability pregnancy scans in line with clearly defined WFI Standard Operating Procedures/Protocols and professional codes of conduct.
Coach patients to self-administer fertility drugs and obtain informed consent for treatment.
Provide information and advice on treatment and emotional support to patients face to face and over the telephone/video call.
Perform venepuncture.
Chaperone nurses and doctors.
Prepare theatre and support with theatre procedures.
Participate in on-going Quality Management by participating in the undertaking of audits and risk assessments.
You will ensure patients receive safe, individualised and effective standards of care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care. You will manage the skill mix of the nursing team and other resources effectively at all times, liaising with members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team to deliver patient care. Support the Unit manager in ensuing efficient/effective management of the area. Promote, improve and maintain high standards of care and contribute to the wider development of nursing within the Health Board. Supports the Unit Nurse Manager to prepare and monitor staff rosters’ ensuring cost effective deployment of personnel. Ensure patients receive safe, individualised and effective standards of care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care.
Support the Unit Nurse Manager to develop, implement and evaluate standards of care in line with Health Board Strategy for Nursing and Clinical Governance. Assist in the implementation of the Health Board and Service Policies and guidelines/standard operating procedures (SOP), participate in audit, review and updated relevant SOPs ensuring they are evidence based. Under the HFEA regulations for confidentiality, witnessing and documentation, ensure the department upholds the HFEA practice (1990) Act.
Progress through the competency framework for fertility nursing.
Compliance to legislative and organisational codes of practice.
