An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the consultant team at the Welsh Centre of Burns and Plastic Surgery, based at Swansea Bay University Health Board.
We are looking to recruit a keen and enthusiastic new colleague to join a friendly, forward thinking team in orthoplastics and head and neck surgery.
This is a full time substantive Consultant post based at Morriston Hospital but working across the Swansea Bay University Health board sites and Major Trauma Centre. The successful candidate will join a team of 28 substantive plastic and reconstructive surgeons responsible for the provision of Burns and Plastic Surgical services for the population of South Wales.
This is a permanent full time Consultant post for a consultant orthoplastics/Head & Neck surgeon based in the Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery (WCBPS) at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. The post holder will play a lead role in the continued development of the orthoplastic and head and neck resection and reconstruction service in plastic surgery.. The post holder will also be expected to participate in the plastic surgery acute trauma on call rota. This post will be mainly based at Morriston Hospital in Swansea and the Major Trauma Centre, Cardiff although there is an expectation that all consultants will undertake peripheral clinics as required.
Main duties of the job

The city is the gateway to the Gower Peninsula, designated an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. Walking, fishing, surfing, canoeing and sailing flourish in the area and Walkers/ ramblers are spoilt for choice. The magnificent “Worms Head” snaking out to sea is one of the finest views in the world; yet you have all the facilities of urban life at hand. Excellent state and independent schools are available. There is easy access to the M4 corridor.
Singleton is a University Teaching Hospital allied to the College of Medicine at the rapidly expanding Swansea University and is a designated training unit for higher specialist training in Wales. We are consistently rated highly in the GMC junior doctors’ surveys. There are excellent teaching and collaborative research opportunities with Swansea and Cardiff Universities. The medical school is consistently ranked 3rd or 4th best in national student surveys.

Essential criteria
- Registered with the GMC
- On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Burns and Plastic Surgery or eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB or a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register
- Recognised demonstrable sub specialty fellowship in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
- Licensed to practice
Experience
Essential criteria
- Have extensive experience of Head and Neck surgery and Orthoplastic surgery
- Have experience of working in a designated Major Trauma Centre
- Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships, on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff (”Working Together”)
- Evidence of working with management and clinical colleagues to improve a service (“Always Improving”)
