Job overview

We have an opportunity for a motivated pharmacy technician with an interest in mental health, to join our friendly team based in Cefn Coed Hospital in Swansea.

The mental health pharmacy team provide clinical and technical services to acute adult , older peoples and rehabilitation wards on site, and five medium secure and two low secure wards and several learning disabilities units off site. The team also work closely with the community mental health teams and care home In-Reach team.  

Applicants will hold a valid BTEC & NVQ level 3 Pharmaceutical Science Certificate and be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). However, applicants who do not meet the requirements of the Band 5 role, are encouraged to apply and will need to attain the qualification within the first year of employment and will be appointed under Annex 21 rules during this first year payment will be 75% of the top rate of Band 5 pay. You will receive dedicated support and supervision to help you to progress into the Band 5 role.

Not meeting the qualification within the specified timeframe may lead to potential re-deployment.

Main duties of the job

We have an excellent opportunity within our friendly department for an enthusiastic and motivated technician to join our pharmacy team in delivering a high quality service to our patients. 

The successful candidate will work between clinical services (ward and dispensary). We are a department that is committed to the extended role of technicians and you will be encouraged to develop your skills in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice in our busy department.

Pharmacy technician play a key role in the integrated ward teams covering all aspects of medicines management. 

Applicants will hold a valid BTEC & NVQ level 3 Pharmaceutical Science Certificate or be working towards this qualification .  Qualified applicants will need to be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Students qualifying this year will need to register with the GPHC.

If you have the ability to work using your own initiative, have good communication skills, a high level of accuracy and are keen to develop your patient focussed care this is an ideal position from which to progress your career.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
