Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time enthusiastic and motivated Ward Clerk to join our team on Ward 50/50A, Royal Victoria Infirmary. Ward 50/50A is a busy Cardiology Unit with x6 Coronary Care beds, 17 ward beds and a cardiology day unit
We are looking for a reliable and organised individual with excellent communication skills. You must be able to demonstrate an adaptable approach to your work and be able to manage your workload with various competing demands for your attention within a busy clinical area.
You must be courteous, respectful and helpful at all times.

Main duties of the job
Basic IT knowledge is essential. Previous NHS experience with e-record and working within a ward clerk environment is desirable.
The role involves providing a front line clerical service to clinical staff within the ward, ensuring an appropriate standard of support is delivered in a timely manner.
You will provide a meet and greet service to visitors, patients and staff.
You will be the main communicator for the ward, answering the ward telephones and liaising with nursing and medical teams.
A key responsibility for the post holder is to ensure the timely and accurate inputting of data is captured for all admissions, transfers, discharges of patients, outpatient activity and arranging day unit and follow up appointments.
Additional duties will include booking patient transport and supporting ward sisters with administrative duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide and maintain efficient and effective administrative support to the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse and multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Ensures case notes, investigations, X-rays and results are available for new admissions, ward rounds and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
- To ensure that case notes are correctly maintained following departmental guidelines and compliance with legislation (Caldicott Guidelines etc).Ensuring PAS system is up to date and accurate.

Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
- NVQ 2 level qualification / experience and/or minimum of 4 GCSEs, Level 9 – 4 (A – C), including English Language, or equivalent level qualification or relevant experience
Desirable criteria
- Competent with Microsoft Office software including Outlook; ICT Level 1 Qualification or equivalent
Knowledge & Experience
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience working within the NHS
- Knowledge of the eRecord, Mermaid, Casis, ERA and or Tracking systems
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to communicate with members of the public and healthcare providers
- Able to work effectively alone or part of the multi-disciplinary team
- Effective organisation and time management skills
