Job overview

To support the Transport Management team in all aspects of the transport operation.
Within the department.
To provide a high-quality, cost-effective transportation service in line with QE Facilities requirements in a manner that 
conforms with all legal legislation and company policies, at the same time ensuring that all department requirements 
are taken into consideration without being detrimental to the overall network requirements.
The Transport Supervisor will be required to cover for driver’s holidays, absence etc

Main duties of the job

To ensure all deliveries and collections are made on time and in compliance with current procedures.
To ensure all assets are recorded in line with laid down procedure.
To ensure all companies resources are available on time and all delays are reported.
To monitor performance of all staff and prepare reports as per company policy.
To carry out regular meeting with staff to ensure flow off communication. 
To assist in the recruitment of drivers within the agreed establishment levels.
To ensure all driving and related staff comply with the legal requirements.
To ensure that all vehicles are maintained in line with current operator licence and company 
requirements.
To monitor and carry out performance reviews with subcontractors.
To encourage and assist in the development of each member of staff.
To ensure all staff comply with company Health and Safety policy.

Working for our organisation

QE Facilities (QEF) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust (GHNT), based in the North East of England.

We provide a range of non- clinical services to GHNT and other NHS organisations. Our services include: estates, facilities services, procurement, medical engineering and devices, endoscopy decontamination and sterile services, transport, out-patient pharmacy, and prevention & management of violence & aggression training (PMVA). 

In addition we provide consultancy services, advising clients on all aspects of establishing a subsidiary company within an NHS body to the provision of VAT compliance advice.

QE Facilities work to their own Terms and Conditions and these are not the same as Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust Terms and Conditions. This is not an Agenda for Change Pay Rate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To carry out disciplinary hearings in line with company policy.
To ensure all administration aspects for transport staff in the department are up to date.
To ensure all driving staff comply with driver’s regulation by use of contracted systems.
Internal: Managers, Supervisors, Drivers, and 
Customer Care Managers.
External: Patients, Carers, Relatives, Healthcare 
Colleagues
To ensure a uniform policy is adhered to.
To ensure compliance with ISO accreditation.
To report all accidents and carry out all follow up action.
To assist in the development of the transport department by maintaining high standards.
To assist in the control of van fleet within the depot.
To ensure all defects are raised and cleared in an effective manner.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Team player
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Able to influence and sell in ideas at all levels.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 3 Years’ experience of working in a busy traffic office environment at supervisory level.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle and drivers’ regulation.

Qualifications

Desirable criteria
  • Categories C1 & D1 on driving licence
  • Customer Services NVQ
  • First Aid
  • Advanced Driving
