Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As part of our status as the main teaching hospital for Warwick Medical School all new appointments will have the opportunity to contribute to medical student teaching. Significant contributions to undergraduate teaching are recognised through additional SPA, usually in the form of specific roles that can be applied for Postgraduate teaching may include the direct supervision of Specialist Registrar lists and participation in various teaching programmes for Registrars. The combined teaching commitment is recognised through 0.5 SPA for teaching for new consultants.
The appointee must reside within 30 minutes of the Trust (although this may be negotiable to some extent). All consultants are required to participate in clinical audit and continuing professional development. The Radiology Department has a clear policy for the implementation of Clinical Governance.  As part of this each individual consultant is issued with a professional portfolio to enable him/her to document and record all the necessary details to demonstrate personal clinical governance and lifelong learning.  Consultants are required to develop and maintain this portfolio and review of this will form part of annual appraisal.

The appointee should have, or be within six months of obtaining, a CST and be on the Specialist Register.  He/she should have had specialist training of at least 1 year in their chosen speciality at a recognised training establishment.
Consultant appointments are made to the University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust; as services are developed and changed, the base of posts may alter and any employee of the Trust will be expected, within an agreed clinical strategy, to move his/her sessions as the service requires.

In particular, your attention is drawn to the fact that the post advertised may include routine evening and week-end working as part of the working arrangements for the new hospital the details of which are currently under discussion. The specific scheduling of such activities would be subject to mutual agreement and may be agreed at a later date in the future.
