Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To ensure the safety of all patients undergoing endoscopy by ensuring efficiency of all decontamination processes through sound management of equipment and training in decontamination in accordance with national and local guidelines.
To take responsibility for the running and maintenance of the decontamination area, ensuring all flexible endoscopes and accessories are cleaned, disinfected and appropriately tracked using the electronic tracking system in accordance with national and local guidelines. The post holder will be required to maintain skills required to fulfil on call duties.

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria

Experience of working in a healthcare environment (at least six months experience)
Ability to understand the importance of confidentiality and to maintain confidentiality at all times
Demonstrates good interpersonal skills
Able to communicate clearly, verbally and written
Acute hospital healthcare experience

Desirable criteria

Has an understanding/awareness of the Data Protection Act
Has an understanding of basic health care requirements
Has an understanding of infection prevention within a care setting

Qualifications & Professional Training

Essential criteria

GCSE in English and Maths
Functional Skills Numeracy, Literacy, Communication Level 1

Desirable criteria

Level 2 QCF/NVQ Health & Social Care
Level 2 QCF/NVQ Clinical Healthcare Support
Basic IT Skills.
Functional Skills Numeracy, Literacy, Communication Level 2

Skills & Ability

Essential criteria

Good verbal/communication skills – ability to articulate to internal and external team members
Have the ability to deal with members of the public from many diverse groups
Good telephone manner
To be able to assist patients to move using appropriate aids on a frequent basis
To be able to transport patients using wheelchair/trolley or bed on a frequent basis. This will occur for short periods frequently throughout a normal shift and will require moderate effort
Frequently be able to deal with patients and relatives during distressful situations.
Willingness to learn new skills and apply in the workplace
To deal with competing demands for attention with frequent interruptions
