An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Rheumatology Clinical Nurse Specialist team at George Eliot Hospital.

The Haematology team is a dynamic, supportive and friendly multi-disciplinary team dedicated in providing holistic, patient-centred care. We are therefore looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual who is committed to providing the highest standard of nursing support and care to both inpatient and outpatients.

Main duties of the job

  • Working as part of a multi-professional team to deliver enhanced clinical practice to rheumatology patients and participate in education, audit and application of evidence-based practice within the specialty.
  • Any applicants must have knowledge and experience in haematology and chemotherapy and possess excellent communication skills. You will be working closely with the multi-disciplinary Haematology team, and therefore, must be confident in acting as the patient’s advocate to ensure the best outcomes throughout their diagnostic and treatment pathway.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Carry out programmes of care and treatment determined by others.
  • Manages clinical caseload on a day-to-day basis including making minor modifications within prescribed parameters reporting back to the Clinical Nurse Specialist and/or Consultant Rheumatologist.
  • Provides advice in relation to the care of individual or groups of patients.
  • Liaises with other nursing staff caring for clients within the specialty to provide enhanced knowledge to optimise patient care.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to best practice and relevant knowledge of the NHS and modernisation agenda, seeking to develop the service as part of the professional team.
  • Deliver education programmes to patients, carers and other nursing staff as agreed by the Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Act as a role model exploiting at every opportunity to enhance the knowledge of others in issues relating to the specialism.
  • Provides advice that contributes to the care, well-being or education of patients/clients including health promotion.
  • Participates in research and audit as part of the multi-professional team within the specialism.
  • Ensure that high quality data is collected for both audit and research trials, as required.
  • In support of the Clinical Nurse Specialist, develops protocols of care and implements evidence-based practice.
  • To provide clinical advice to patients suffering from Rheumatological disease, to ensure that patients are fully aware of treatment options available to them so that they can make informed decisions.
  • To provide education and advice, to enable patients to adapt to lifestyle changes and enhance their well-being.
