An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated ward clerk to join the team on Ward 23 at Bradford Royal Infirmary. We are looking for a highly enthusiastic individual to complement our existing multi-disciplinary team on this busy acute respiratory ward.

Main duties of the job

This is a key post in the provision of clerical and administrative support to the ward. Answering telephone enquiries, communicating with the ward team, patients and relatives and the ability to work on one’s own initiative are all essential aspects of the role. The ward clerk is an important and integral part of the team and the post holder must have the ability to manage their workload efficiently and effectively.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working experience/knowledge of computers, data input and word processing
  • Experience of working face to face and/or telephone contact with the general public
  • Experience of offering suggestions for improving own or team working practices.
  • Previous NHS experience
Desirable criteria
  • Previous clerical experience in an administrative setting
  • Experience in use of Lorenzo, Evolve, Real Time ADT, Microsoft

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional telephone manner
  • Able to deal with fluctuating workload and prioritise work accordingly
  • Ability to work on own initiative whilst under pressure, including working to tight deadlines and prioritising work effectively.
  • Keyboard and computer skills including Microsoft Office packages

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Patient Administration System (or equivalent system)

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE standard (or equivalent) *

Other requirements

  • The ability to work flexibly to cover the needs of the service (including weekends and evenings should the ward progress to 7 day working)
