Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Nurse/Diabetes Nurse to join our small, dedicated diabetes team to deliver specialist advice, education and services at Airedale NHS Hospital Foundation Trust.
It is an opportunity for someone with an enthusiasm for diabetes and a wish to extend their knowledge in this field. The successful candidate will work alongside and be supported by a highly skilled multidisciplinary team including Consultants, Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Dieticians and Podiatrists.
You must have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate (willing to undertake the necessary training) the knowledge, experience and motivation to care for the patient living with diabetes.
The successful candidate will be able to provide direct expert diabetes nursing, with a primary focus on inpatient care.
This is an exciting time to be involved with diabetes care, technology is advancing, treatments are changing and improving at pace.
Main duties of the job
Providing safe care to patients living with Diabetes in line with NICE, national and local guidelines.
Provide comprehensive evidence-based specialist clinical care, training and consultancy to both people with diabetes and other professionals providing care, in a range of settings including the diabetes centre, GP practices patients’ homes and other care settings.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner with access to advice and support from senior colleagues.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Thorough understanding of the NHS Constitution and its implications Excellent communication skills Change management skills Leadership skills IT skills Experience working with dose adjustment protocols or similar Knowledge of national and local diabetes clinical practice guidelines Problem solving complex clinical / care issues Ability to work independently and as an effective team member

QUALIFICATIONS

- Level 1 Registered Nurse Teaching/assessor/mentor qualification

- Relevant post qualification study at Master level
EXPERIENCE

- Ability to work independently and autonomously Practice within guidelines and protocols to ensure deliver of high-quality diabetes care Participation in clinical audit
Desirable criteria
- Experience is delivering teaching programmes. Previous diabetes experience

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
