Job overview

The Chief Nursing/Midwife/AHP Information Officer (CN/ MW/AHPIO) for the EPR Programme provides strategic clinical leadership for digital transformation across nursing, midwifery & allied health professions, specifically focused on the implementation, optimisation & ongoing maturity of the new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.

This fixed‑term 12‑month role acts as a crucial bridge between frontline clinical services & the digital programme, ensuring that the EPR supports safe, patient‑centred care & aligns with national standards, operational needs, and partnership requirements across Airedale, Bradford Teaching Hospitals, and Calderdale & Huddersfield.

The post holder will lead the EPR Clinical Informatics Team, guide clinical subject matter experts, and shape clinical workflow design, testing, deployment and optimisation. They are responsible for embedding digital ways of working, driving clinical readiness for go‑live, supporting benefits realisation, and ensuring clinical risks are identified, escalated, and mitigated.

The role requires strong stakeholder engagement across internal & external partners, effective communication of complex digital‑clinical issues, and leadership of change management activities across clinical divisions. The CN/AHPIO will also contribute to governance, training alignment, quality improvement, and strategic planning, ensuring that EPR‑enabled care is safe, effective, efficient, and future‑focused.

 

Main duties of the job

Provide senior clinical leadership for nursing, midwifery and AHP contributions to the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record (EPR) programme.
Act as the key link between clinical services and the digital teams to ensure EPR design and configuration support safe, efficient and patient‑centred care.
Lead the EPR Clinical Informatics Team, guiding clinical SMEs and ensuring digital workflows align with operational practice.
Oversee clinical aspects of EPR design, build, testing, readiness and go‑live activities across all relevant services.
Drive post‑go‑live optimisation, supporting clinical teams to embed new digital ways of working.
Identify, assess and mitigate clinical safety risks in partnership with the Clinical Safety Officer.
Lead clinical engagement, communication and change management across the Trust and with partner organisations  (BTHFT and CHFT).
Represent nursing and AHP digital priorities in programme boards, working groups and external stakeholder meetings.
Support quality improvement, benefits realisation, and development of policies, SOPs and training aligned to EPR workflows.
Contribute to programme planning, risk and issue management, and production of programme documentation and reports.
Build collaborative relationships with suppliers, partner Trusts, and internal stakeholders to deliver a standardised, safe approach to digital care.

  • Knowledge and experience of Delivering complex healthcare within an acute setting
  • The ability to use digital technology effectively to support a productive team working environment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Nursing & Midwifery Council Registration / AHP Professional Registration
  • Master’s degree/postgraduate qualification or significant relevant clinical experience in a complex NHS organisation
  • Digital Leadership qualification, or working towards
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of an Electronic Patient Record, or other Health Information System implementation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of working with diverse teams to oversee change and improvement initiatives on a large scale, in a complex organisation
  • Solid experience in managing complex care delivery in the NHS or a care environment
  • Experience in setting up and implementing internal processes and procedures
  • Manage project inter-dependencies working alongside other senior team members and key suppliers to align objectives across the programme
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering transformational service delivery in a Healthcare environment
  • Experience in managing risks and reporting
  • Experience in process mapping and business planning processes
