Job overview

The Support Services Supervisor is an integral part of the Prison Healthcare Team; supporting the delivery of care by ensuring all healthcare areas are IPC compliant and audited in line with Spectrum’s polices, safe, fit for purpose, welcoming and conducive to high quality patient care.

Whilst ensuring support is provided at all times to both clinical and non-clinical staff, the Support Services Supervisor is responsible for co-ordination and delivery of a range of services including health and safety management, ensuring excellent working relationship with the Prison Works, Estates and Security Departments.

The post-holder will actively support in the development of the service, ensuring compliance with national standards for health and safety and environmental cleaning taking day-to-day responsibility for ensuring smooth delivery of healthcare by always maintaining the cleanliness and general upkeep of the department.

The Support Services Supervisor is responsible for managing their own workload.

The post holder will be aligned to a specific service line but will be required to work flexibly and must therefore have the ability to travel across all sites to provide response to the service needs of the physical and mental health clinical teams to ensure continuity of a quality service provision.

Main duties of the job

Provide and receive routine information requiring tact or persuasive skills, barriers to understanding; provide advice, instruction or training to groups.

- Lead point of contact between local healthcare department, the wider organisation and
partnership agencies matters pertaining to order & supplies, visitors, deliveries and visiting services.
- Liaise with suppliers and develop relationships to ensure robust procedures are in place
for the procurement and delivery of essential supplies at a local level.
- Develop relationships within the establishment to coordinate job requests and maintenance work for the healthcare department.
- Develop relationships with clinical and operational staff to support the delivery of commissioned services at site such as liaising with wing managers to refresh healthcare promotional material on the wings, liaising with clinical staff to manage clinical stock supplies, liaising with security managers for gatepasses and visitor queries etc.
- Lead point of contact between local healthcare department and ICT services to ensure effective IT infrastructure at a local level.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to NVQ level 3 in a relevant field such as Health & Social Care.
  • Relevant training from a similar job role such as Manual Handling Training.
Desirable criteria
  • Qualifications in Infection Control, COSHH and Health and Safety ECDL or certificate in Microsoft office or computer literacy

Essential criteria
  • Have a knowledge and practical ability with regard to IT applications
  • Previous supervisory experience or experience in roles requiring a high degree of autonomous working.
  • Experience of healthcare environments.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous employment within a healthcare setting.
  • Previous experience in a Prison or secure environment
  • Knowledge/experience of Infection Control, COSHH and Health and Safety
