Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our laboratory team as a full time HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Agenda for change band 6).
Candidates will need to possess an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Clinical Chemistry if registered with the HCPC after 2006. Consideration may be given to candidates who can evidence that that are approaching completion of the specialist portfolio, who would be employed under Annex 21 conditions.
The department operates a 24/7 service utilising a continuous process pattern (CPP) system based on blocks of shifts. Out of hours working attracts a CPP payment, of approx. £8,500 per annum depending on shifts worked. The successful candidate will be required to fully participate in the CPP rota, after suitable training.
This role will be based at the Airedale General Hospital (AGH) laboratory site and the successful candidate will be employed directly by the NHS as an Airedale NHS Foundation Trust employee
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be required to work in all sections within the chemistry department, demonstrating specialist knowledge and technical skills and providing day to day leadership within the team.
The role will also include supporting the Advanced BMS EQA and IQC lead with day to day duties, including EQA and IQC monitoring, undertaking initial poor performance investigations and ensuring compliance with departmental processes.
The successful candidates will need to be enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational and practical abilities supported by well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to support individual and team working
The department currently utilizes Beckman AU5800, DXI immunoassay, Vidas 3, Sebia Capillays and Sebia Hydrasys technology, in conjunction with a with Winpath LIMS system.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Biomedical Science degree or equivalent qualification
- HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist
- IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Clinical Chemistry (candidates registered with HCPC after 2006) or equivalent qualification or experience that evidences work at equivalent level
Desirable criteria
- Membership of professional body such as IBMS

Essential criteria
- Significant discipline specific experience and knowledge.
- Experience of working within a NHS Clinical Chemistry laboratory
- Evidence of Continuous Profession Development
- Experience of Pathology IT systems
- Experience of Pathology Quality management systems
Desirable criteria
- Experience of serology and immunology
- Experience of writing/ reviewing SOPs in line with local or national guidelines
