Job overview
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for the post of Associate Practitioner (AP). We are looking for enthusiastic, well-motivated, innovative individuals with NHS Microbiology laboratory experience to join our team in providing a quality service to our service users, within Microbiology laboratories located at Airedale General Hospital and Bradford Royal Infirmary hospital sites.
Successful applicants will be directly employed by ANHSFT. The Trust is fully committed to its staff and actively encourages staff development with a keen focus on quality and continuous improvement. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in late shifts, weekend working and Bank holidays.
The post is based predominantly on the Airedale site with occasional working on the BRI site as and when required.
Evidence of relevant existing Microbiology Laboratory experience within the application will be vital for shortlisting.
Main duties of the job
Following full training the post holders will be an integral part of the Microbiology department and expected to work, under the direction of qualified Scientific staff, as part of the pathology team providing mutual support at all times ensuring that work is completed. Post holders will also be responsible for ensuring MLA roster provides appropriate cover to perform the work required, supervising, training and competence assessing of MLA staff, liaising with the departmental training officer as appropriate.
The post also includes involvement in service development and improvement, responsibility for stock control within the laboratory, reconciliation of referral sample results and dealing with telephone calls from service users. Duties also include maintenance of departmental quality control processes, managing administration aspects of the quality management system (QMS) including document control, in liaison with the departmental Quality lead.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post includes processing of a variety of clinical specimens for biological testing, using both manual and automated systems in routine bacteriology & molecular areas of the department The Microbiology Department at Airedale processes the work for both ANHSFT, BTHFT and community services, with the combined workload of approximately 400,000 requests per year.

- Foundation Degree in Healthcare Science or HND in appropriate subject
- NVQ level 4 in a Science subject
- IBMS part II Certificate of Achievement

- BSc in Biomedical Science or other suitable science subject

Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in a UKAS accredited diagnostic microbiology laboratory
- Experience of following SOP’s
