Job overview
Working as part of the Rheumatology team to deliver IV/IM/SC biologic infusions to rheumatology patients.
These are set days on Mondays and Thursdays determined by the activity on the day case unit (Ward 20)
Cannulation and phlebotomy is needed but can be acquired in post if needed.
Monitoring and observing patients and being able to assess for infusion related reactions is a must.
Main duties of the job
You will gain experience on the Day Case Unit as part of a small team administering IV biologic therapies to our patients and be engaged in the administration of treatments for osteoporosis and intra muscular Depomedrone injections. Teaching patients to inject themselves.
The day unit would offer you a broad range of experience in caring for patients with rheumatological conditions requiring:-
· Specialist IV medications including cytotoxics
· Phlebotomy
· Cannulation
· Supporting patients and families through treatment
You will need to be a good communicator, show compassion and empathy and work as part of a team demonstrating at all times the Trusts Right Care Values and behaviours. Ensure complete, concise and contemporaneous nursing records.
The successful candidate should demonstrate a keen desire to care for rheumatology patients, be committed to lifelong learning and be patient focused.
Full in-house training would be offered inclusive of IT and use of SystmOne.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To work closely with the Rheumatology CNS team to administer IV/IM/SC treatments to rheumatology patients.
Ideally be proficient in cannulation and phlebotomy.
Set days are determined by access to the day unit.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Studied to Diploma level or equivalent
- Registered with NMC
Desirable criteria
- Completed 6 months Preceptorship period following registration
- Degree in healthcare/nursing studies
Experience
Desirable criteria
- recent relevent post qualification experience
- Recent experience at a band 5 within an acute hospital setting
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the NHS Constitution & ‘Understanding the New NHS’
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of health and safety issues
Skills
Essential criteria
- Skilled clinician
- Excellent communicator with a good verbal and written command of English
- Capable of working within a multi-disclipinary team
Desirable criteria
- Can lead by example and demonstrate teaching and coaching skills
- Experience in administration of biologic medication
