Job overview

A rare opportunity has arisen within the Cardiology team at Wrexham Maelor Hospital for an Acute Cardiology Nurse Specialist. This is a part time post and the hours will be worked over two days (Monday – Friday).

Please note that if the successful candidate does not possess a relevant 1st degree, MSC in Advanced Clinical Practice, or sufficient experience, the post will be offered at Band 6 moving to Band 7 on completion of the MSc.

 

Main duties of the job

The Acute Cardiology Nurses at Wrexham Maelor Hospital provide a high quality, comprehensive and innovative nurse led service to patients experiencing acute conditions, mainly Acute Coronary Syndromes, but also patients presenting to the Emergency Department with arrhythmias, breathlessness or collapse. They provide and facilitate timely care and interventions in all acute settings, predominantly the Emergency Department with the aim of preventing avoidable admissions and ensuring patients requiring admission are managed appropriately. The team consists of 2.8 WTE and work very closely with all members of the Cardiology multi-disciplinary team. They are a hospital based service providing inpatient care for patients presenting with an acute Cardiology condition and outpatient care for those attending the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic. The team also run the Cardiology referral triage service which provides rapid, clinical triage of over 500 referrals per month from GPs and other clinicians.  They provide expert advice and support to other clinical colleagues, particularly the Acute Medical Consultants and Cardiologists and offer education, training and clinical expertise to Primary and Secondary care staff. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • 1st Degree in relevant clinical/professional subject – if no degree, must be willing to undertake MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice
  • Post Registration qualification in relevant cardiac related subject
  • NMC Registered Nurse
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical Examination and History Taking modules at Masters level
  • Independent prescribing
  • IRMER training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration experience including significant time working in cardiac care at Band 6
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
