We have a fantastic secondment opportunity for a Paediatric Diabetes Nurse Specialist (PDSN) to join our innovative, forward thinking and friendly team based at MKUH.

Main duties of the job

Help and support to develop and build on all these skills will given for working with the MDT to deliver individualised, timely, meets national standards, and the needs of the child and families care.

You will need to be a fantastic communicator, as we have a positive Paediatric Multi-Disciplinary team that work closely together to drive forward best practice. Our Nurses are truly valued by the Management and Medical Teams and effective joined up working is a real asset to our ability to provide holistic care. We will support you to develop into someone who can influence others and effectively manage change supporting the delivery of the Department, Divisional and Trust Agenda's.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their commitment to continuous professional development for themselves and their team: You will have the support of the Matron, the Paediatric Diabetes MDT, our Quality Lead Nurse and a Practice Educator to ensure that you and your team can deliver great care in a busy acute environment.

The Paediatric Diabetes team look after a wide ranging caseload of children and young people and their families 
 
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Children’s Nurse to lead our Paediatric Assessment Unit. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring the delivery of the highest standards of patient care and safety. This role requires strong leadership, clinical expertise, and a passion for working with children and their families

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Children’s Nurse
  • 4 years post registration experience
  • Qualification in speciality: Paediatric Diabetes
  • Mentorship or equivalent qualification
  • Degree in relevant health/education related field (or evidence of significant post-graduate study)
  • Paediatric Intermediate Life Support qualification- PILS
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of recent appropriate clinical practice
  • Non-Medical Prescribing Course
  • Leadership Course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of 3 years post qualification working in an acute paediatric speciality
  • Able to evidence ability to work independently and also within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Able to demonstrate successful implementation of effective evidence- based practice
  • Detailed experience in facilitation/ teaching/ assessing/ coaching.
  • Good understanding of governance and all it entails
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of effective specialist development within this field, with a working knowledge of current local and national guidelines relating to best practice for children and young people with diabetes
  • Experience of managing a defined caseload and ability to work under pressure to manage workload and meet deadlines
  • Experience of policy development
