Job overview
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated nurse who is passionate about working with children and young people in the community to join Birmingham Community Children's Nursing Team. Alongside the Clinical Service Manager and Team Leader, you will play an active part in clinical practice, education, research/audit and the implementation of national guidelines. The successful applicant will work as part of a well-established dynamic team who provide specialist advice and support to children, young people and their families and all members of the health care teams involved in the child/young person’s care.
This opportunity will provide experience of working with children and young people and families in the community setting as well as the chance to develop a wide range of clinical skills. The post holder will be expected to proactively participate in the development of the service. A high emphasis is placed on working with staff and families within the clinical and community environment to ensure that the clinical needs of are being met. The post holder is required to be responsible as the senior nurse to support the Clinical Service Manager, provide clinical leadership to the team and coordinate patient care.
Full time/part time/flexible hours of working will be considered at interview.
Main duties of the job
The post will work in conjunction with the Children’s Palliative Nurses and Nurses in other Specialist Services to support parents and carers of children with life limiting conditions. This role will also enable you to further enhance your leadership and management skills within a supportive and experienced team. If you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to be a team player, as well as the initiative to work autonomously and effectively this could be the challenge for you. You should have good organisational skills and evidence of continued professional development.
Working as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team, the post holder will facilitate optimum quality of life and deliver high quality care to children and their families with an active referral to the children’s community nursing team. This will be achieved in collaboration with children and their families through provision of specialist nursing interventions based on comprehensive holistic assessment, agreement of goal focused care planning and education and support to both children and their families.

- First Level Registered Nurse
- Degree in children’s nursing / children’s palliative care or equivalent
- Evidence of continued education.
- Independent supplementary prescriber or equivalent or willing to work towards
Experience

- Demonstrate relevant experience in children’s community nursing or paediatric nursing care.
- Significant experience of symptom management relating specifically to managing complex health needs
