Care Support Worker

1 x 24 hour post available

We are delighted to welcome applications to join Ward B3, a busy vascular unit. 

We are searching for caring individuals who understand the needs of our patients and display compassion and patience at all times.

Successful applicants will be actively encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge to meet both personal and service development needs. 

12 hour shift working. You will be required to work flexibility over days, nights and weekends.

Main duties of the job

The Care Support Worker will work together with members of the Nursing / Midwifery team and contribute to the implementation of a high standard and individualised patient care under the direction of a registered nurse.

The post holder will be required to communicate effectively with other members of the health care team, patients and relatives and must be able to recognise and report to the appropriate person any changes in the patient’s condition which may require the intervention of others.

The post holder will be assessed on appointment on their level of competence and may be required to undertake development to include basic skills and in house development programme.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Maths and English qualification – GCSE A-D, or Grade 4-9, or Functional Skills Level 1
  • Care Certificate or ability to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
  • QCF/NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare or equivalent qualification/relevant experience

Knowledge & Training

Essential criteria
  • Ability to recognise limitations of knowledge and competence and practice within these boundaries
  • Prepared to undergo further training
  • Able to use and update IT systems with patient information
  • Able to use and update IT systems with patient information

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to assess patient’s health, safety and wellbeing while undertaking personal care and referring/escalating to other staff as appropriate
  • Regular contact with bodily fluids when carrying out interventions and or treatments
  • Frequent moderate/intense effort required for periods of time
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in a healthcare environment
  • Manual handing of patients (including toileting, bathing and turning patients), equipment and stores

Communication

  • Evidence of effective communication skills
