Job overview

We are seeking a dynamic leader who will be responsible for the delivery of the Chief Nurse Office agenda and objectives through the application/demonstration of Nursing and Midwifery workforce, governance and operational management knowledge on the key workforce priorities, aligned to the BHT NHS Long Term Workforce Plan and national strategy. The Lead Nurse for Safer Staffing and Workforce Utilisation Strategy will be responsible for the strategic delivery of the Nursing and Midwifery workforce programme across the Trust. If you held a nationally recognised qualification on Workforce Planning, Delivery and Assurance at Master's level or completed the NHSE Safer Staffing Fellowship, we would like to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

A key objective of the post is to ensure compliance with safer staffing national guidance through close monitoring of key metrics and policy. The role is crucial for creating and maintaining focus, enthusiasm and momentum for the safer staffing improvement programmes across BHT and will contribute to Board reporting on such matters.


You will collaborate with colleagues, participate in the development and implementation of the Trust Nursing and Midwifery Strategy in conjunction with the Directors of Nursing/Midwifery, Head of Midwifery, Deputies/Lead Nurses, Matrons, and key workforce stakeholders, to support the delivery of a model which is aligned to the Trust objectives and long-term workforce plan. This requires the ability to set a clear vision for staff through leadership, motivational and influencing skills. The role is pivotal in ensuring robust oversight in compliance to effective rostering and safe staffing deployment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse, first degree or demonstrable equivalent qualification or experience
  • Completed the CNO Safer Staffing Fellowship Programme
  • Leadership and management qualifications
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant Masters degree (or working towards) or equivalent qualification/experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable relevant experience as a senior nurse/manager within an acute healthcare setting
  • Substantial experience in using evidence-based workforce planning tools such as the Safer Nursing Care Tools (SNCT)
  • Demonstrable experience of leading safer staffing and reviewing establishments
  • Experience in analysing data and writing reports relating to workforce and safe staffing

  • Budget / financial management
  • Developing SOPs and policies

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge in the application of SNCT
  • Knowledge of national workforce policies
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and or national guidance and apply it locally
