Job overview
The post holder will work within a team of nursing and medical staff and act as an allocated nurse for a group of patients, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating their care needs. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating their allocated workload, reporting to and liaising with senior staff.
The post holder will work within the multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality care in partnership with children and their families whilst working to meet the RCPCH Standards for children and young people in an emergency care setting and short stay area.
Main duties of the job
1. Work closely with the nursing team, ensuring individual programmes of care is formulated according to patient needs and current research/guidelines.
2. Ensure planned nursing care is delivered safely and effectively taking into account the views of the child and their parents / guardians.
3. Ensures plans of care are updated as appropriate.
4. Ensures arrangements for the admission, transfer and discharge of children are made safely, efficiently and effectively in line with Trust policies.
5. Advise on health promotion and the prevention of illness.
6. Recognise situations that may be detrimental to the health and well being of the individual and take appropriate action.
7. Carry out those activities involved when conducting the comprehensive assessment of a child’s nursing requirements.
8. Undertake the essential nursing assessment of the child, taking into account all the activities of daily living.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/Awaiting NMC PIN
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of further continued professional development
- Post qualification experience in relevant speciality
- Hold / be working towards an NMC approved mentoring qualification
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Ability to understand the role of a registered nurse
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
- Awareness of current professional nursing issues
- Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit/quality
Desirable criteria
- Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
