Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Emmeline Centre, a well-established Hearing Implant Service, providing cochlear implants, bone conducting hearing devices, middle ear and auditory brainstem implants for East Anglia.
This is a secondment post ending 31/8/2026.
Main duties of the job
The Emmeline Team is friendly and dedicated towards the delivery of an excellent service for all our users, as well as constantly looking at better ways to provide a service. The Centre is purpose-built, located within Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge. This is a secondment post ending 31/8/2026.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team, with particular emphasis on adult cochlear implant assessments and programming bone conduction hearing
implants. Your caseload will include independent adult appointments and occasionally assisting in paediatric sessions. You will have clinics with a hearing aid focus to continue existing expertise. You will have input in departmental projects and audit.
A good grounding in adult audiology is expected. Experience of different hearing implant devices is desirable, but not essential, as full training will be provided.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc in Audiology or equivalent
- Registration with a UK professional body (or overseas equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- British Sign Language: Level 1
- Training with auditory implants
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in clinical audiology; including experience of identifying patients requiring further specialist intervention
- Evidence of autonomous and unsupervised working
- Record of successful supervision and training
Desirable criteria
- Experience working with auditory implants
- Experience of contributing to research/ audit activities
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understands the workings of a broad range of hearing aids and their processing strategies
- Knowledge about: a. Use of diagnostic tests (eg for the assessment of middle ear function) b. Physiological measures (SRT, ABR, ASSR)
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of Deaf culture and its politics/ values relating to cochlear implantation
- Knowledge of national policies and best practices relevant to hearing implant recipients
- Understands the different types of hearing implants used and their technical aspects
- Perform and Interpret Physiological measures (SRT, ABR, ASSR)
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to determine appropriate interventions from a range of options for complex patients with profound, sometimes multiple disabilities
- Able to communicate effectively with patients, in particular when explaining complex information about hearing loss and management options
- Excellent prioritisation, organisational and problem -solving skills
- Capable of working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team
- Flexible and adaptable to changing situations due to both workload and colleagues needs
- Ability to work unsupervised and manage own workload
Desirable criteria
- Able to work effectively within a multi -disciplinary team
- Able to give short presentations in informal settings to colleagues
- Able to collect, analyse and interpret complex technical data
