Consultant

Job overview

Are you a passionate physician seeking to join a genuinely friendly team of specialists willing to support each other in the delivery of high-quality healthcare services for Medicine for Older People?

Join North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust where you will find a strong sense of community and support and where you can develop further your medical skills under the guidance of an inspiring team.

Being an intrinsic part of a team of 15 Consultants spread across all our main hospital sites, you will assist in the development of the service to address emerging healthcare needs of our growing population that we serve regionally.

Our new Peterborough City Hospital will provide you with an exciting working environment, new technology and the opportunity for research and development.

We are looking for an ambitious team player who can embrace new ways of working and take an active lead in the development of Older Persons’ Services.

You will be a member of the Royal College of Physicians or have equivalent experience and training and must be fully registered with a license to practice with the GMC with specialist registration in Geriatric Medicine or be within 6 months of CCT for these specialties.

We believe in flexible working, so we are offering full-time, part-time or job share assignments.

For further details and to organise an informal visit, please contact Dr Olu Akintade, Consultant Physician on 01733673885 or [email protected].

Main duties of the job

The job plan has been created to contain a total of 10 PAs, 8.5 clinical programmed activities and 1.5 SPA sessions. SPAs will include audit and clinical governance, teaching, appraisals, revalidation, CPD and research. Clinical sessions include ward rounds, sub-specialty work and clinical admin plus communication with carers.

The role will require commitment to participating in the on call General Medical Rota which currently runs as a 1 in 14 rota with plans to extend to a 1 in 19 rota. There are currently four other geriatricians on this Rota with a planned expansion to 5.

The job plan may be adjusted to include more or less PAs. This will be arranged with the colleagues and the clinical lead.

You will be an essential part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering high quality care in Medicine for older People in the community and inpatient settings.

Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, nurses and other professionals allied to medicine are mandatory to your role and to the development of the service.

You will actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.

As part of your personal and professional development, you will take part in continuing medical education (CME) and demonstrate commitment to revalidation.
