The post holder will have a degree in Clinical Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or an equivalent qualification, or experience in Electronics/Clinical Engineering.  Sufficient post registration experience most recently in a specialty dealing with ventilation / CPAP / anaesthetics is desirable. Specific training on a range of medical devices will be provided.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post is advertised as a Band 5 position and, ideally, candidates for this role will have achieved a BSc in Clinical Technology or Electronic/Electrical Engineering or hold an equivalent qualification. Alternatively, they will have an equivalent amount of experience in Electronics or Clinical Engineering. However, applicants who do not currently meet the full requirements for the Band 5 role are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under Annex 21 rules. Then, through a combination of on-the-job experience and external study, they will need to develop a portfolio to obtain registration either as a Registered Clinical Technologist (RCT) or via the Academy for Healthcare Science Practitioner Training Programme (AHCS PTP). This must be done within a maximum of 4 years.

The Annex 21 rules mean the successful applicant will be supported by a development plan. During the first year, payment will be 60% of the top rate of Band 5 pay, 65% in the second year, 70% in the third year and 75% in the fourth year. Following successfully achieving registration with the RCT or AHCS PTP, the post holder will then be employed at Band 5 at the minimum point on the scale. Support and supervision will be provided in order to develop the successful applicant to the Band 5 role. Failure to achieve the qualification in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment.

As part of the Annex 21 process, there is no financial penalty to those who apply for this role where the percentage will cause a reduction in pay, subsequently a local protection would be put in place until the pay has caught up.

The department provides a broad range of complex, routine and non-routine activities including servicing, repair, calibration, safety testing, quality assurance, evaluation, commissioning, decommissioning, planned preventive maintenance of clinical equipment and devices.

You will be able to find a full job description and person specification attached within the supporting documents.
