Hywel Dda Health Board are searching for a Deputy Director of Nursing, Quality and Patient Experience!

The successful applicant will be clinically and managerially responsible for ensuring the policy and delivery of nursing and midwifery services across the organisation.

They will drive and implement the required standards to successfully deliver the aims and objectives required within the professional nursing regulatory frameworks and standards. 

To be responsible for leading policy and strategy development in relation to all aspects of the Health Board’s Nursing, Quality and Patient Experience Programmes which requires expert clinical knowledge.

The Deputy Director of Nursing, Quality Patient and Experience will deputise for the Executive Director of Nursing, Quality and Patient Experience in all areas of responsibilities and accountabilities within their defined portfolio. 

Main duties of the job

·       Leading and implementing health board-wide policy and strategy requirements relating to all elements of nursing, patient experience and quality. Engaging with and managing external stakeholder directives and statutory requirements. 

·       Contribute and lead on the continuing improvement and transformation of clinical services within a complex organisation. 

·       Provide inspirational, dynamic professional management and leadership, and ensure statutory regulation and supervision for all Nurses, Midwives and Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (hereafter referred to as ‘Nurses’) and others.

·       Utilise all available evidence to develop, implement and evaluate the nursing and midwifery strategic framework for the Health Board in accordance with Welsh Government policies. 

·       Lead in creating an environment in which excellence, research and development, public protection and patient safety can flourish to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. 

·       Develop a dynamic partnership with national groups, HEIW and local Education Institutions in order to promote an ethos in which education, research and innovation contribute to the excellence of patient care and the quality of the workforce. 

·       Provide leadership to all corporate nursing teams working with the Assistant Directors of Nursing and Heads of Nursing and Head of Midwifery to ensure the overall discharge of quality and safety governance in the Health Board.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Lead the organisation in developing a culture from team to Board which is patient centred; where patients feel “safe and confident” and in which patients’ views are actively sought and acted upon and in which concerns are dealt with compassionately, quickly and professionally encompassing the health board values.

·       Lead and manage all the relevant corporate departments required to execute the core accountabilities as defined within the Director of Nursing, Quality and Patient Experience function.

·       Actively lead and manage systems that seek and provide corporate assurance that the operational delivery units are executing their operational functions and responsibilities.

·       Lead and manage highly complex, sensitive and high-profile organisational cases, issues on behalf of the organisation

·       Participate in the on-call Executive Rota

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council
  • Educated to Masters level
  • Postgraduate management qualification in leadership / service improvement
  • Extensive knowledge of nursing workforce issues
  • Evidence of engagement in leadership and managerial development
  • Evidence of ongoing and relevant continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of Quality Improvement methods

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of working at a senior nursing management level
  • Senior nursing leadership experience including experience of leading programmes of change and improvement
  • Experience of workforce redesign programmes of work
  • Experience of managing large scale change / improvement programmes
  • Experience of using digital programmes and platforms
  • Experience of managing complex teams
