Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity in Hywel Dda University Health Board, within the county of Pembrokeshire for a Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner to join the Community Physiotherapy team.

This exciting role will be supporting service delivery and patient care across different aspects of community physiotherapy services in Pembrokeshire. 

As 7-day services are developed, applicants must be prepared to work as part of a rota to cover 7 days.

The post holder will be expected to travel in a timely manner within the HDUHB area. Mileage allowance is payable.

You will have experience of using highly skilled handling techniques. 

You will be able to demonstrate clinical reasoning skills that enable you to assess and treat patients within protocols without immediate direct supervision.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic, positive and motivated individual who has the skills and ability to engage well with their patients, can work under supervision as well as independently, support innovation and training, and has the ability to work flexibly in a team. Relevant evidence of experience in patient care is desired.

You will work with others in the team in the treatment of patients with complex mobility issues in their own homes and on Health Board sites.

You will be working with patients who have frailty - to reduce falls risk; neurological conditions; people who are post-surgery; those that have recently been discharged from hospital; mental health conditions amongst others.

We are looking for a caring and friendly person who has the ability to interact with people in a mature and positive way.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English (grade A - C) or Essential skills in Wales (ESiW)
  • Level 3 Diploma in physiotherapy support
  • Has a significant knowledge and experience (level 4) of the model of physiotherapy and able to support therapeutic intervention with arms length supervision. i.e. lone working
  • Relevant courses to support clinical work
  • Broad range of experience as a support worker in therapy service or associated field
  • To complete level 4 therapy apprenticeship or 120 credits level 4 physiotherapy specific learning within 2 years of appointment.
  • Basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Level 4 therapy Apprenticeship
  • IT knowledge of data collection systems
  • Professional, technical or academic qualification which relate to clinical practice up to 180 credits level 4
  • Stars stroke competence

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates developed manual handling and manipulation skills to incrementally improve client capacity to be independent.
  • Demonstrates developed visual acuity and perceptual skills.
  • The ability to work unsupervised in a variety of community settings, taking responsibility for a delegated workload.
  • Working knowledge of specialist therapeutic equipment appropriate to clinical specialty
Desirable criteria
  • Understands the role of other staff groups in health and social care
  • Supervision of staff.
  • Additional clinical or health care related experience
  • Experience of working with groups of patients
  • Keyworker/ Case Manager
