Job overview
Main duties of the job
- Independently manage and lead specialist cardiac rhythm management (CRM) clinics, including follow-up and programming of pacemakers, ICDs, and CRT devices (both in-person and remote monitoring).
- Provide expert interpretation of device diagnostics and clinical data and take appropriate action in line with clinical protocols or in liaison with cardiology consultants.
- Support the implantation of cardiac devices, including intraoperative testing, programming, and documentation.
- Act as a clinical lead within the CRM service, supporting service development and the implementation of new technologies and best practices.
- Provide training, mentorship, and supervision to junior staff, students, and trainees to ensure continued professional development and safe practice.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, attending relevant meetings and contributing to case discussions, audit, and service evaluation.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all clinical activities, maintaining high standards of record-keeping and compliance with Health Board policies and national standards.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, audits, and governance activities to maintain and improve service standards.
- Assist in managing workloads and service delivery planning, including prioritisation of urgent cases and coordinating clinic schedules.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- BSc Clinical Physiology or BTEC / HTEC MPPM or equivalent
- Registration Council for Clinical Physiologist (RCCP)
- Associate for the Society of Cardiological Science and Technology (ASCST) examination or an equivalent
- International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE/NASPE) or BHRS accreditation (HRUK) or the equivalent in experience
Desirable criteria
- Recognised qualification in teaching or mentorship
- Immediate Life Support (ILS)
- Clinical skills training
Language Skills
Desirable criteria
- Welsh Speaker (level 1)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience as lead physiologist during pacemaker implantation and follow up or extensive experience as junior physiologist in pacing services
- Proven experience of working independently in pacing services
- Proven competence and autonomy in performing and reporting highly specialised cardiac investigations
- Training and supervising students and junior members of staff
Desirable criteria
- Conducting physiologist led clincis
- Experience of clinical assessment
- Experience in leading a team effectively
