An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and clinically skilled nurse to join our existing Acute Oncology Team at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will  give advice and implement patient care in the area of Acute Oncology, which requires specific clinical knowledge, skills and experience, however a development role will be considered for candidates with the right potential. This is an exciting time for the service to expand its cover for this group of patients

Main duties of the job

To give advice and implement patient care in the area of Acute Oncology, which require specific clinical knowledge, skills and experience. The post holder will work alongside other clinical colleagues in general oncology, palliative care, A&E, acute medicine, radiology, and pathology to ensure quality of care to patients is maximised. This will include the development of clinical guidelines and education programmes.

The post holder will paly a key role in the Acute Oncology Team (AOT) and in the delivery of acute oncology services throughout the Trust. The post holder will provide early input of specialist care to oncology patients enabling:

·         Faster and better care of patients with complications of cancer treatment (early recognition, better treatment, early discharge).

·         Faster and better care of patients with complications of their cancer (early recognition, better treatment, rapid referral back to specialist oncology team, palliative care team etc)

·         Appropriate investigation of patients who might benefit from treatment for unknown primary cancers (targeted investigations, rapid triage of patients into specialist oncology or palliative care.

·         Assess, plan, implement/co-ordinate and evaluate programmes of evidence based nursing care

  • RGN, Educated to degree level, evidence of ongoing professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Sufficient post registration experience to prepare for this post this will include experience and knowledge within oncology • High level advanced clinical skills and knowledge. • Experience in teaching and training of staff • Involvement in Nursing audit and Research • An awareness and understanding of national and local issues relevant to speciality. • Up to date knowledge and understanding of nursing policy and practice relevant to speciality Understanding national and local policy relating to speciality.
Desirable criteria
  • Ward management experience

  • • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients and relatives in a variety of settings. • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal & communication • Able to analyse data and provide written reports. • IT skills. • Able to manage work autonomously, within broad clinical parameters. • Knowledge of professional and NHS issues, and policy relating to specialist area. • Able to present information to professional groups. • Able to perform assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care. • In conjunction with other clinical colleagues, develop and plan specialised care pathways for patients. • Ability to clinically lead and influence staff • Able to perform advanced clinical skills within the Trust Policy framework. • Assertive. • Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues. • Ability to manage own workload
