Job overview
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) seeks to appoint an extra consultant nephrologist based at Glan Clwyd Hospital to support the expansion of renal services. You will join a team of 4 consultant nephrologists, 1 specialist renal doctor, 1 renal SPR, 4 junior doctors, 4 renal specialist nurses covering CKD, anaemia and transplantation, 1 renal social worker, 1 renal dietician, 0.5 WTE consultant renal psychologist and 1 renal physician associate. The renal team runs weekly diabetic kidney disease, transplant and general nephrology clinics, ward based dialysis facility, outpatient dialysis in the renal unit, which has a dedicated training facility for home therapies (haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) and ITU based haemodialysis and continuous hemofiltration for critical care renal patients. There is close collaboration with newly centralised vascular services for north wales for vascular and peritoneal dialysis access as well as complex vascular surgical procedures for patients with CKD and AKI. The post holder will participate in a 1:18 GIM rota.
Main duties of the job
· Design and establishment of a robust multidisciplinary service for renal problems (both inpatient and outpatient) incorporating expertise from MDT.
· Play a major part of day to day running of kidney replacement therapy and general nephrology services.
· Maintain robust clinical governance mechanisms, including mortality and morbidity reviews, are in place to meet the safety/quality agenda agreed for Secondary Care
· Ensure there is appropriate and timely medical input into dealing with concerns, complaints, incidents and infection control issues
· Contribute to service development and improvement work within this specialised medical field and proactively supporting recruitment of medical staff and PAMs staff to the team.
· Provide, with consultant colleagues, a service in the speciality of renal medicine and General Internal Medicine with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.

Essential criteria
- GMC full registration and Licence to Practise
- Full MRCP or equivalent
- CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
- Valid Certified Basic Life Support Skills (or equivalent international qualification)
Desirable criteria
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD; PhD; MSc
Clinical Experience

- Broad based experience Renal Medicine and GIM
- Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
- Knowledge and participation in CPD
- Safe and effective written and verbal communication

- Ability to place US Guided haemodialysis catheters and Renal Biopsies
