North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust requires a highly motivated, multi skilled, reliable and flexible Mechanical Craftsperson to work as a key member of its Community Estates Team based at Carleton Clinic. The role is to undertake preventative maintenance, trouble shooting and repair work to a diverse range of systems for NCIC plus other healthcare provider’s sites that have a maintenance agreement with so that they are well maintained to ensure they are safe for the patients, staff and visitors who use them.
Main duties of the job
Being responsible as a Competent Person for ensuring all pre-planned maintenance tasks (ppm’s) for Legionella monitoring, Fire dampers ventilation and Medical Gas systems are carried out to plan and any corrective actions arising from the inspections are recorded and where necessary brought to the attention of Estate Managers. Control (in terms of access and shut downs) and assist external contractors who have being engaged to carryout tasks such as cold water tank cleaning, inspections to calorifiers, Passenger Lifts, Medical Gas pipelines and Pressure systems etc.
Carry out Pre-Planned maintenance duties in accordance with legislative and mandatory standards as scheduled and provide all necessary feedback information to the Maintenance Manager and Estates Helpdesk daily to ensure that auditable records are maintained. All work to be undertaken in a safe manner having regard to the healthcare environment in a way that minimises risk. This may in some case involve working with equipment that may have some contamination or may be live electrically. Diagnose faults on mechanical services and recommend actions for remedial work.
Maintain abrasive wheels in department including checking soundness of wheels and replacing where necessary.
Make recommendations for improvement and modifications/additions to water systems and all mechanical services resulting from PPM works.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised trade apprenticeship (or working towards this) or equivalent experience/knowledge in engineering in a Healthcare ,commercial or process environment.
- Health and safety training
Desirable criteria
- Advance certificate in health and safety at work
- NHS HTM Competent Persons Training for Ventilation, Medical Gas ,Water Safety
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Maintenance experience in a multi –skilled organisation.
- Hands on experience of Fire Damper and Ventilation inspections, Experience with process control systems
- Legionella monitoring and control in water systems
Desirable criteria
- Medical Gas systems, Sound knowledge of HTM requirements in relation to mechanical services
- Understanding of Medical Gas plant room procedures
- Understanding of work undertaken by allied trades
