 Applications are invited for an exciting opportunity to join our established Breast Imaging team as a Consultant Radiographer in Breast,  for the North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Service. University Hospitals Morecambe Bay Trust are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Consultant Radiographer to join our prestigious healthcare team and contribute to our commitment to providing exceptional patient care.

The North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Service, as part of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, operates Breast Screening and Symptomatic services from dedicated imaging units at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Furness General Hospital and Westmorland General Hospital.

In addition, we operate two mobile units in the community.

The North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Service is a highly performing service for Breast Screening with a dedicated, caring and professional team of Consultant Radiologists, Consultant Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners, Mammographers, Assistant Practitioners, Clinical Support Workers, Programme Management and Administrators. 

The unit is fully digital with a robust PACS system. Our Radiology team is also part of the strong and effective UHMB Breast Multidisciplinary Team alongside members of the Surgical, Histopathology, Breast Care Nurses and Oncology services.

Main duties of the job

The Consultant Radiographer will be an independent accountable practitioner working on their own initiative and taking a lead role in clinical decision making, working collaboratively with the wider multi professional breast screening and symptomatic radiology team and breast surgical team. 

The post holder will provide a high quality and responsive breast imaging service as part of a multi-disciplinary team, whilst maintaining and monitoring performance as set out by the NHSBSP to enable standards to be met. 

They will fulfil a senior role in the breast team with the autonomy to initiate action based on their interpretation of policies/guidelines, seeking advice if required. This will include providing expert advice and guidance to colleagues in relation to differential diagnosis and follow up. 

The post holder will be a highly motivated Radiographer with extensive expert knowledge and experience in all aspects of breast imaging. They will be committed to the development and delivery of a high quality breast service in North Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay. 

Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.

  • PGc Mammography

  • Educated to Masters level or working towards
Desirable criteria
  • PGc Teaching Qualification

Experience

  • Extensive experience in breast diagnostic setting
  • NHS Breast Screening Programme Experience
  • Experience in NHSBSP Recall to Assessment
  • Experience facilitating MDT
  • Extensive experience performing interventional procedures
