Applications are invited for the post of  Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Medicine.

The successful applicant will contribute to the well-respected Diabetes and Endocrine  services of the Trust in both in-patient and outpatient settings. They will be working with the rest of the multi-professional Diabetes and Endocrinology team in a wide range of activities.

Main duties of the job

 The successful applicant will be working with the rest of the multi-professional specialist team in developing the existing services, ensuring timely management of referrals, optimising integrated care pathways, and facilitating the movement of a proportion of care into a community setting.  In addition, the successful applicant will contribute to clinical sessions within ward 36, diabetes inpatient ward, and may be asked to contribute to the Emergency Assessment Unit managing unselected acute medical admissions and contribute to the acute medical on-call rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 The successful applicant will contribute to the specialist diabetes and endocrine  services of the Trust in both in-patient and outpatient settings. They will be working with the rest of the multi-professional specialist team in developing the existing services, ensuring timely management of referrals, optimising integrated care pathways, and facilitating the movement of a proportion of care into a community setting.  

This  post is based within the University Hospital of North Tees.  Outpatient services are provided in the Outpatient departments in the University Hospitals of North Tees and of Hartlepool and other community settings within the catchment areas of Hartlepool and Easington

There will also be the opportunity for research experience within the diabetes programme.  It is desired the successful candidate will help to consolidate a currently large insulin pump Service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GMC registration
  • Entry in the GMC specialist Register for GIM, Diabetes and Endocrinology via CCT
Desirable criteria
  • CESR or equivalent

Clinical experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical skills equivalent to completion of Higher Speciality training in Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in acute take at consultant level

Non Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in clinical audit
  • Experience in Patient Safety initiatives
  • Teaching experience to medical and non medical staff
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Service Improvement
