North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of  Consultant Cardiologist with any specialty interest that aligns with requirements of the wider University Hospital of Tees Cardiology department

This successful applicant will be the 9th Consultant Cardiologist to join the dynamic team at North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation trust on a permanent basis as we progress to forming a fully integrated Cardiology department with our colleagues at South Tees NHS Foundation trust later this year.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be expected to participate in and share responsibility with the existing consultants for:

·       The clinical workload of the department and service development

·       The day to day running of the cardiology service

·       The administrative affairs of the department

·       Develop a further special interest according to the interests of the post-holder and the needs of the department. This may include the need for cross site working

·       Maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of cardiology.

·       Undertake any responsibility which relates to the agreed special interests.

·       Provide cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences. 

·       Provide professional supervision and management of resident medical staff. 

·       Be actively involved in the management of the department, including attendance at the Consultant Cardiologists’ meetings, monthly cardiology directorate meetings and other Specialist Centre meetings as applicable.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GMC registration
  • Entry in the GMC specialist Register for Cardiovascular Medicine through CCT, CESR or European Community Rights, or within 6 months of CCT date
Desirable criteria
  • MD, PhD or MSc

Clinical experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of training and clinical experience in General Cardiology
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of research or innovative service developments

Non Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in clinical audit
  • Experience of supervising resident medical staff
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of management and administration experience
