Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced imaging support worker to help lead our superb team of health care assistants and health care support workers within radiology at The Royal Sussex County Hospital with some rotation to The Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath.

The Imaging Support Worker Team Leader is a pivotal member of the Radiology Team. The post holder will be supported by the Radiology Superintendent & Lead Radiology Nurse to effectively lead a dedicated team of Band 2 & 3 Imaging Healthcare Support Workers to provide effective assistance to a wide range of imaging modalities.

The successful candidate will also work with Nurses, Radiographers, Sonographers, Consultant Radiologists, Practice Educators and the wider Radiology Management Team.

You will need to have excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills to support the team in delivering the best patient care across our Radiology departments.

Main duties of the job

The key role of the Imaging Support Worker Team Leader is to support the flow and care of our patients through the Radiology departments at Royal Sussex County, Hove Polyclinic and Princess Royal Hospitals. This requires a high level of dedication and organisation to provide the best care for patients and staff members.

  • The post holder will be responsible for the leading and support of the imaging support worker (ISW) team across the Radiology departments
  • The post holder will develop and be responsible for the implementation of departmental policies and procedures in relation to the Imaging Support Workers
  • The post holder will help organise the Imaging Support Worker team and ensure imaging services are sufficiently supported daily
  • The post holder will be responsible for Imaging Support Worker appraisals and personal development plans, including mandatory Trust training
  • The post holder will help to promote a positive approach and ensure staff work with the patient first framework

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Imaging Support Worker Team Leader will provide support and guidance to our teams across Royal Sussex County, Hove Polyclinic and Princess Royal Hospitals  within University Hospitals Sussex.  

This Team Leader will ensure that a high quality service is provided and maintained. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of the Imaging Support Worker teams, ensuring smooth and effective care to patients. This role will include line management of a large team of staff.

The post holder will work as a key member of the operational management team, leading site based induction, training and governance whilst ensuring that a high standard of clinical care is delivered. There is an expectation to work alongside other Radiology Team Leaders within the department and Trust but also independently when required.

The role will be supported by the Radiology Superintendents and the Radiology Management team to ensure all clinical performance indicators, targets and objectives relating to the general department are met in line with national and local standards.  The post holder will ensure the department and staff work within the patient first framework.

Travel between Royal Sussex County Hospital, Hove Polyclinic, Princess Royal Hospital and the wider Trust may be necessary in some circumstances.

Qualifications / Experience

Essential criteria
  • Maths and English GCSE at grades 4 or above
  • Experience in Radiology/Imaging Department
  • Previous hospital working experience
  • Care Certificate
  • Evidence of proven leadership of a team in a healthcare setting
  • IT Skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma level 3 or equivalent in Healthcare subject
