Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic team leader to join our team in Blyth Theatres. The successful candidate will need to have leadership experience within the Operating Theatres environment.

This is a great opportunity to enhance your leadership skills, be integral in the running of the department and will have the opportunity to support with innovation. If you are interested in gaining some leadership skills and enhancing your knowledge and development then this will be a great role for you.

Blyth theatres specialises in obstetrics and gynaecological surgery. We have 3 theatres 2 are for elective surgery and 1 for emergency surgery.

We are a 24 hour department and the candidate will be expected to cover out of hours shifts.

This post is available to Allied Health Professionals - Operating Department Practitioner and Nurses.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to develop truly patient centered evidence based care through their clinical expertise and knowledge and through demonstrating the leadership skills to deliver and maintain best practice.

The successful candidate will:

    • Demonstrate their professional commitment to patients, their families and carers.
    • Be committed to actively seeking the views of those who use and those who work within out services, and responding effectively to that feedback.
    • Understand how to develop their team and workplace cultures to ensure the highest standards are maintained at all times.
    • Collaborate with a wide range of people and professional groups to improve the services we provide.
    • Be skilled in managing day to day organisational issues and challenges of both elective lists and emergency surgery.
    • Be responsible and organise the effective planning of an elective list.

Essential criteria
  • Excellent clinical skills within specialty.
  • Proven experience at Senior Theatre Practitioner level with knowledge of list suite management.

Desirable criteria
  • Proven experience at Senior Theatre Practitioner level with evidence of leadership and management experience
  • Evidence of managing change

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Part 1
  • Evidence of Post registration qualification/specialist development.
  • ODP NVQ Level 3, DipHe with D32/33 or equivalent or willing to undertake.
Desirable criteria
  • ENB 183 or Equivalent
  • Diploma or working toward Health Care Management qualification.
  • Undertaken or willing to undertake recognised management course such as LEO
  • Specialist Practice Module level 2 or equivalent/similar

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Problem solving approach
  • Day to day management responsibilities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of resource management within team
  • Demonstrate excellent clinical skills within the peri-operative setting
